How Often Should Anti-Aging Skin Treatments Be Repeated?

Anti-aging results build over 90 days, not on treatment day. We explain the collagen timeline behind lifting and skin boosters and how we plan your next visit.

How Often Anti-Aging Treatments Really Need Repeating

An anti-aging treatment does not finish on the day you leave the treatment room. The collagen it triggers keeps forming for about 90 days, and the lift or firmness that results generally holds for four to six months depending on the category of treatment. We schedule the next visit around the point where that window ends, not on a fixed calendar interval.

How Often Should Anti-Aging Skin Treatments Be Repeated?

A single session is never wasted. But its result has a biological shelf life, and knowing that window matters more than how many times a patient comes back for the same procedure.

The Change Builds for 90 Days, Not on Treatment Day

Energy-based lifting treatments work by controlled heat injury to the deeper skin layers, and the tissue's response to that injury takes weeks to unfold. A 2025 study in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology tracked skin samples after microfocused ultrasound treatment and compared them at day 14 and day 90. At day 14, fibroblasts and an inflammatory response had gathered at the treated points. By day 90, that inflammation had resolved, and both mature collagen and newly synthesized elastin had increased significantly compared with the earlier timepoint.

This is why judging a lifting treatment two weeks after the appointment is premature. The tissue is still mid-repair at that stage, and the collagen that ultimately produces visible firmness has not finished forming.

Each Treatment Category Holds for a Different Length of Time

Not every anti-aging treatment follows the same clock, and planning a return visit means knowing which clock applies.

Radiofrequency and ultrasound-based lifting. A 2024 study in the journal Cosmetics followed 20 women for 24 weeks after a single monopolar radiofrequency session. Sagging along the jawline and nasolabial folds showed significant improvement by week 12, and that improvement was still present at the 24-week follow-up. In practice, we treat this category's benefit as holding for roughly four to six months before the next session is worth scheduling.

Skin boosters built on polynucleotide injections. These start from a different structure altogether: a single session is not a complete course. A 2024 study in Clinical, Cosmetic and Investigational Dermatology describes a three-session protocol, spaced roughly four weeks apart, before the treatment's benefit on skin firmness and evenness is assessed. For this category, the first three visits complete one course, and only after that course is finished does a maintenance session become the relevant question.

The practical difference matters for scheduling. A lifting treatment can be evaluated and, if needed, repeated after several months. A skin booster protocol needs its full session sequence first; asking whether it "worked" after one injection is asking too early, in the same way judging a lifting treatment at two weeks is.

How We Plan the Return Visit

We diagnose the skin before we design a treatment, so the interval between visits comes out of that diagnosis rather than a standard package. Whether sagging is the primary concern, or pigmentation and texture are present alongside it, determines which category goes first, and a longer-recovery treatment placed earlier in a plan tends to shorten the overall schedule rather than lengthen it. We set out that sequencing logic in more detail in our guide to treatment order when dullness and sagging appear together.

For patients visiting from outside Korea on a short stay, we separate what can be completed in the current visit from what should wait for the next one at the time of consultation. Our Gangnam location sits on the second and third floors of the UH FLAT SIGNATURE Gangnam hotel, with Japanese-, Chinese-, and English-speaking staff on site, and the oxygen chamber and vitamin IV drip are available at no charge to hotel guests. Because treatment and recovery happen inside the same building, we can factor the recovery period into the next visit's timing rather than treating it as a separate trip to plan around.

FAQ

If the effect fades, does the skin go back to where it started?

The improvement gained through collagen remodeling recedes gradually, and age-related change continues in parallel during that same period. Reaching the end of a treatment's maintenance window is best read as a signal that it is time for reassessment, not that the earlier session had no value.

Does repeating the same treatment more often make it more effective?

No. As the day-14 versus day-90 comparison shows, collagen needs roughly 90 days to mature after a thermal treatment. Repeating the same energy-based session before that process completes does not add benefit and is not something we recommend.

What if a patient cannot return to Korea often?

We prioritize the treatment category with the longer maintenance window on the visit that is possible, and we record a recommended timing for the next one in the patient's chart so the schedule carries over between visits.
