If you received a skin booster or laser treatment in Seoul and are heading home afterward, the groundwork for safe follow-up starts before you leave: a copy of your treatment record with the exact procedure, product, area, dose and date. Once you're home, you can share photos and describe symptoms with our clinic, but worsening redness, heat or pain needs an in-person exam at a medical facility near you. Korean law also gives a clinic in your home country a path to request those Korean records directly, with your consent.
Hello, I'm Dr. Kim Yeonjin, director of UH CELL Clinic's Gangnam branch.
For patients traveling from abroad, the preparation I recommend most is a final check, the evening before departure, of the record you're taking home. A clinician near you can only judge how your skin is healing if they know what was done, where, and how much.
Records to collect before you leave Korea
Article 21 of Korea's Medical Service Act allows a patient to request to view or receive a copy of their own medical record, and a medical institution may not refuse this without legitimate cause. Before you leave, confirm your record includes:
- The exact procedure and product name (for example, Rejuran Healer or Juvelook)
- Treatment area, dose or shot count, and the date of treatment
- Names of any prescribed medication, such as antibiotics or anti-inflammatories
- Photos taken immediately after the procedure
You'll need ID to request the copy. Seoul National University Hospital's guidance on issuing medical record copies lists a passport as acceptable identification for this purpose. The same items appear in the pre-treatment explanation and consent form you sign here, so comparing your record against that paperwork before you board your flight is a useful final check.
What counts as a reason to contact us after you're home
Mild swelling or a small bump right after treatment usually settles on its own over the following days. I'd ask you not to wait if you notice any of the following instead:
- Redness, heat, or pain that keeps getting worse day by day
- A lump you can feel that hasn't shrunk, or has grown, after several weeks
- A change in skin color or any discharge
A photo alone is rarely enough to confirm whether inflammation is present. If you see any of these signs, send us photos as you normally would, but also get examined in person at a medical facility close to you. Distance makes a hands-on exam, not a screenshot, the safer first step.
How a clinic near you can pick up where we left off
Article 21-2 of the Medical Service Act requires a medical institution to respond, with the patient's or guardian's consent, when another medical institution requests a copy of records or an opinion on the course of treatment. This is the channel a clinic in your home country can use if it needs the Korean record directly. Requesting and translating documents across borders can take time, so carrying your own printed or digital copy home is usually faster than waiting on that exchange.
Our Gangnam branch keeps English, Japanese, and Chinese-speaking staff on site. When you reach out after returning home, sharing your treatment date along with the record items above makes it easier for us to follow your progress with you.
FAQ
Can I hand a Korean-language record to a clinic in my home country as it is?
It may be difficult for a clinician there to read it directly. Ask before you leave whether an English copy can be issued, so you have both versions on hand.
When can I go back to a sauna or hot spring after treatment?
It depends on the treatment type and how your skin is responding. Follow the guidance you received for your specific procedure during your pre-departure consultation, and hold off while redness or heat is still present.
How is the timing for my next treatment decided?
The right interval depends on your skin condition and how you responded last time, even for the same procedure. At your next visit, we look at your previous record together with how your skin has recovered since you returned home before planning the next step.
Individual skin response and recovery time vary. Please consult a physician for an exact diagnosis and treatment plan.
