Swelling After Skinvive: Is It Safe to Wait a Week?

| Input:

Swelling after Skinvive is not a reason to automatically wait a week. Symptoms determine when prompt treatment is needed and when to notify your treating clinician.

Swelling after Skinvive does not automatically mean it is safe to wait a week. Our key distinction is the type of symptoms, not simply how many days have passed. AbbVie Korea’s precautions for use in Korea distinguish inflammatory reactions that may last a week from warning signs that require prompt treatment.

A week is not a guaranteed waiting period

According to AbbVie Korea, inflammatory reactions after Skinvive injection may include redness and swelling, sometimes accompanied by itching, tenderness or altered sensation. These reactions may last a week.

That does not guarantee that everyone’s swelling will resolve within a week. It is also not an instruction to monitor every symptom until then. The presence of swelling does not mean that other symptoms should be treated as part of the same recovery process.

Vision changes, pale skin and unusual pain need prompt attention

The same precautions describe rare but serious adverse effects reported in connection with filler injection into facial blood vessels and tissue compression. If vision changes, signs of a stroke, pale skin or unusual pain occur during or immediately after injection, the injection must be stopped immediately and prompt treatment sought.

If these symptoms occur, do not dismiss them as ordinary swelling or wait for a week to pass. Alert a medical professional immediately and seek prompt treatment.

Report inflammation lasting one week or longer

AbbVie Korea advises patients to notify the treating clinician if inflammatory reactions persist for one week or longer, or if any other adverse effects occur.

The threshold is one week or longer, not only after more than a week has passed. The instruction about other adverse effects does not mean you should wait until the end of the week before reporting them.

Our message is straightforward: a possible duration of swelling is not permission to wait that long regardless of symptoms. Seek prompt treatment for warning signs, and notify your treating clinician about inflammation lasting one week or longer or any other adverse effects.
