What to avoid after skin procedures and how to support barrier recovery

Retinol, vitamin C, and ceramides are easy to find at Olive Young and are common home-care ingredients. But even good ingredients can irritate the skin if used at the wrong time or on a damaged skin barrier.

Use retinol at night and start slowly

Retinol is a vitamin A derivative that can support skin renewal, oil control, and firmness. Because it can be irritating, it is safer to begin with a low concentration or every-other-night use.

Vitamin C is best when the skin is stable

Vitamin C can help with antioxidant care and tone, but it may sting after laser treatment or before the skin has healed. Avoid strong vitamin C products on open or crusting skin after pigment or mole-removal lasers.

Ceramides support barrier recovery

Ceramides are key lipids in the skin barrier. When the skin is dry, sensitive, or recovering after treatment, ceramide creams can be considered first.

After procedures, recovery comes before strong actives

Right after laser or injection treatments, it is better to let the skin recover than to layer strong active ingredients. Retinol and vitamin C can be added gradually once the skin is stable.
