ONDA Lifting Can Help a Double Chin, But Thin Faces Need Caution

Dr. Kyungsoo Kim explains when ONDA suits fat-heavy contours and when it may not.

ONDA lifting is often misunderstood as a device that simply pulls the skin upward. In my consultations, I explain ONDA more as a tightening device that helps refine facial contours by targeting the fat layer.

ONDA is useful for fat-heavy facial contours

ONDA uses microwave energy to act on subcutaneous fat, especially in areas such as cheek fullness, lower-face heaviness, and the double chin. It may be more suitable when the jawline looks blurred because of fat volume rather than deep structural sagging.

For patients interested in Korean dermatology or Gangnam skin clinics, ONDA can be considered when facial width or an unclear jawline is mainly related to fat volume.

Thin faces and sagging faces require different plans

If the face is already thin or lacks volume, aggressive ONDA treatment may make the face appear more hollow or tired. ONDA does not create volume. When hollowness or weak support is the main concern, collagen-stimulating or volume-restoring treatments may be more appropriate.

If the key problem is tissue laxity rather than fat, ONDA alone also has limits. In that case, Ulthera, radiofrequency lifting, thread lifting, or skin-support treatments may need to be considered together.

Design and settings determine the outcome

The result of ONDA treatment depends on where it is applied, at what depth, and with what energy. A physician must distinguish between fat that should be reduced and natural volume that should be preserved.

I evaluate fat volume, skin thickness, jawline laxity, and hollowing before recommending ONDA. It can be valuable for fat-heavy faces and double chins, but it is not a fixed answer for every face.
