Patient Agency or Direct Booking: What to Check First

Booking a skin clinic visit in Seoul directly with the clinic is always an option, and if you are also weighing a patient agency, Korean law requires that agency to be registered as a foreign-patient brokerage. The decision comes down to three checks: whether the agency is registered, whose name the quote is issued under, and whether interpretation and after-care are handled inside the clinic itself. When those three points are already covered on the clinic side, there is less reason to add a middle step.

Registration Is the First Thing to Check

Under Korea's Act on Support for Overseas Expansion of Medical Services and Attraction of Foreign Patients, any business that recruits or brokers foreign patients must register with the relevant local government. Korea Dental News reported in 2024 that unregistered operators running foreign-language websites or social media accounts to collect consultation and booking requests are a common form of illegal brokering. The same report noted that an agency's registration status can be checked through the government's foreign patient attraction information system, under its list of registered institutions.

Working with an unregistered broker makes it hard to know how much of what you pay is actually a referral fee rather than the cost of treatment. The Hankook Ilbo reported in 2016 on an unregistered broker who was indicted for violating the Medical Act after taking up to 60 percent of a patient's surgery fee as commission.

Ask Whose Name the Quote Is Under

Book directly, and the procedure name, unit count or dosage, and price come to you as a quote issued by the clinic itself. Go through a broker, and you need to ask separately whether that price already includes their commission. Confirm Where Interpretation Happens

If language is the main reason you are considering an agency, check first whether the clinic itself has interpretation staff. Our Gangnam branch has interpreters on site who work in Japanese, Chinese, and English. Consultation and the explanations given during treatment can reach you without a broker sitting in the room.

Plan Your Recovery Location Before You Book

A short trip means you need to know where you are going right after treatment, not only what the treatment is. If an agency is registered, is that enough on its own?

Registration shows the agency can legally recruit and broker foreign patients. Which treatment actually fits your skin is still decided by the clinic's own diagnosis, so if an agency proposes a specific procedure before that diagnosis happens, ask what it is based on.

What should I tell the clinic if my trip is short?

Share your arrival date and your return flight date when you book. Downtime varies by procedure, so the clinic needs both dates to work out what is realistic within your schedule after diagnosis.

Does the hotel guest benefit apply no matter where I stay?

No. It applies to guests staying at a UHC hotel. If you are staying elsewhere, check the conditions before you book, since the benefit will not apply.
