Oligio vs Thermage FLX: Choosing by Jawline Sagging Depth

| Input:

Oligio and Thermage FLX are both monopolar radiofrequency devices for a sagging jawline. Dr. Kim Yeonjin of UH CELL Clinic's Gangnam branch explains how sagging depth, return-visit plans, pain sensitivity, and departure timing shape the choice for patients visiting Seoul for a short stay, plus what the published research shows about timeline, pain, and contraindications.

Oligio and Thermage FLX are both monopolar radiofrequency (RF) devices that warm the dermis to trigger collagen contraction and renewal, which makes them close cousins rather than two devices with one clear winner. For a sagging jawline, the more useful comparison is four practical factors: how deep the sagging sits, whether a return visit to Seoul is realistic, how sensitive you are to heat, and how many days you have before you fly home. Collagen remodeling continues for months after a single session, with changes still building at the six-month mark.

Hello, I'm Dr. Kim Yeonjin, head physician of UH CELL Clinic's Gangnam branch. When patients ask me which device is "stronger," I usually turn the question around and ask where in the jawline the sagging actually sits.

How the Two Devices Compare

Both devices deliver radiofrequency energy through a single electrode to heat the dermis. A review published in Dermatologic Surgery examined histology studies from 2000 to 2024 and found that dermal collagen increases from immediately after monopolar RF treatment through about six months afterward.

Research published via the U.S. National Library of Medicine's PMC archive reported that this radiofrequency approach is used for mild-to-moderate sagging of the lower face and neck. When sagging runs deeper than that, radiofrequency alone can fall short, so in consultation we look at combining it with an ultrasound-based option such as Ultherapy. Within the evidence I reviewed, I did not find a head-to-head study establishing that one device clearly outperforms the other.

Four Things to Weigh for a Short Stay in Seoul

  • How deep the sagging sits: if the main issue is dermal laxity, radiofrequency is usually the first option we look at.
  • Whether a return visit is realistic: if you expect to be back in Seoul, we can review your progress and plan a follow-up session.
  • Heat and pain sensitivity: if you are sensitive to heat, we settle on shot count and a pain management plan before treatment.
  • Departure timing: because temporary swelling can follow treatment, we leave a buffer and avoid scheduling the session right before a flight home.

Recovery at the Gangnam Branch

Our Gangnam branch sits inside the UH FLAT SIGNATURE Gangnam hotel, and treatment takes place in a private room. Japanese-, Chinese-, and English-speaking interpreting staff are on site. Guests staying at UHC hotels can choose one complimentary recovery option, either a 30-minute oxygen chamber session or a vitamin IV drip; choosing both means the IV drip is priced at 55,000 KRW.

FAQ

When do results start to show?

A 2025 study in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology, led by Suh's team at Korea University Ansan Hospital, treated 32 patients with moderate-or-greater jawline sagging using monopolar radiofrequency. At the two-month mark, 53.1% reported at least 50% improvement, and photographic analysis also showed improvement along the jawline. It was a small study, so individual results can vary.

How much does it hurt?

A radiofrequency technology review archived on the U.S. National Library of Medicine's PMC summarized that monopolar radiofrequency scored higher on pain than bipolar radiofrequency. If you're sensitive to heat, let us know before treatment so we can plan shot count and pain management accordingly.

Is everyone a candidate for radiofrequency lifting?

A clinical study of monopolar radiofrequency archived on PMC excluded patients with an implanted pacemaker or defibrillator as an absolute contraindication. If you have an implanted device, please tell us before your consultation.
