Cosmetic lifting in Korea falls under non-reimbursed care, meaning it sits outside national health insurance coverage. Article 45 of the Medical Service Act, as published on the National Law Information Center, requires a medical institution's founder to post non-reimbursed treatment fees under Ministry of Health and Welfare rules so patients can check them easily. The same article's third paragraph prohibits collecting more than the posted amount.

The price itself is still set by each clinic, so the per-shot cost of the same device can differ from one clinic to the next, and that difference alone doesn't tell you which clinic planned the treatment better. What you can verify directly, on any receipt, is whether the amount charged matches the amount posted before treatment began.

Same Ultherapy, Different Total: Why Depth Changes the Plan

Ultherapy-type devices change which skin layer the energy focuses on by swapping the transducer. A study protocol registered with the U.S. National Library of Medicine's ClinicalTrials.gov under identifier NCT07224308 describes Ultherapy Prime using transducers at 1.5mm, 2.0mm, 3.0mm, and 4.5mm, the depth range cleared by the U.S. FDA for this device.

Deciding how many shots go at which depth is a planning decision, built around skin thickness and what is actually driving the laxity in a given area rather than a fixed recipe. That's why two quotes can both read "300 shots" and still describe different treatments: the number alone doesn't say how that total was split across area and depth, and that split is what determines both the cost and the plan.

Four Things to Check on a Lifting Quote

• Shot count and area. How the total shot count is divided across treatment zones, since a face treated broadly and shallow is a different plan from one treated narrowly and deep.
• Depth combination. Which transducer depths are used, and why that combination was chosen for your skin rather than a single default setting.
• VAT. Whether the listed price already includes the 10% value-added tax or adds it at checkout.
• Scope. Whether numbing cream, post-treatment calming care, and a follow-up check are already included in the quoted amount, or billed separately if needed.

Asking about these four items at consultation, before any shots are given, is what turns a price on a page into a plan you understand.

If You're Visiting From Abroad, Confirm VAT Refund Status Before You Pay

According to Newsis (2025), citing the Ministry of Economy and Finance's 2025 tax law revision, the special VAT refund provision for foreign tourists' cosmetic medical services ended at the close of 2025. Hankyung reported in 2026 that a bill to extend that provision through the end of 2027 has been referred to a National Assembly subcommittee and is awaiting review.

Rather than budgeting around a refund that may or may not be reinstated by the time of your visit, confirm the rule actually in effect on the date you pay.

Article 45, paragraph 3 of the Medical Service Act prohibits collecting more than the posted amount. If shots or areas are added after your initial consultation, confirm the revised total before that additional treatment begins.

Does a higher shot count mean a better result?

How many shots you need depends on the area, skin thickness, and the depth chosen, so comparing shot counts alone isn't a reliable measure between clinics. Asking how that number was decided tells you more than the number itself.
