What Decides Your Ulthera Shot Count Before Price

Ulthera cost rises with shot count, but quotes should be compared by treatment depth and area distribution, not total shots alone. Dr. Kim Yeonjin of UH CELL Clinic's Gangnam branch explains the diagnostic order used before any price quote, citing U.S. clinical trial records on Ulthera's depth-specific transducers and Korea's non-reimbursed fee disclosure rule.

Ulthera cost usually rises with shot count, so a higher number tends to mean a higher quote. But the figure worth comparing first is not the total shot count. It is how those shots are distributed across treatment depth and treatment area. Checking tissue thickness, depth selection, area distribution, and the posted price in that order lets two different quotes be read against the same standard.

Hello, I'm Dr. Kim Yeonjin, lead director of UH CELL Clinic's Gangnam branch. In consultations, patients often ask whether 300 shots or 600 shots is the right choice. I don't answer with a number first. Shot count is the result of a diagnosis completed before any price discussion.

Each Shot Reaches Only One Depth

Ulthera's transducers are each built for a fixed focal depth. The treatment protocol registered with the U.S. National Institutes of Health's ClinicalTrials.gov under NCT03351335 lists Ulthera transducers at 4.5mm, 3.0mm, and 1.5mm treatment depths, each carrying its own frequency. A separate Ulthera Prime study record registered on the same site lists 1.5mm, 2.0mm, 3.0mm, and 4.5mm as the depths cleared by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

That means a figure like 600 shots has to be read depth by depth. A 600-shot plan weighted toward 4.5mm targets a different tissue layer than a 600-shot plan weighted toward 1.5mm and 3.0mm. The number alone does not say which.

What Research Records Alongside Shot Count

In the Ulthera non-inferiority trial registered on ClinicalTrials.gov under NCT02736825, the standard-transducer group received at least 672 pulses to the lower face and neck, split across two depths of 4.5mm and 3.0mm, with the energy level logged separately for each depth. Even a clinical trial defines total pulse count together with treatment area, depth, and energy setting. A shot-count comparison that drops area and depth cannot tell you whether two quotes describe the same procedure.

The Order I Use to Set Shot Count

  1. Check tissue thickness. The same protocol notes that Ulthera transducers can image tissue to a depth of 8mm. I look at thickness area by area on that image before anything else.
  2. Choose depth by area. Thickness decides which depth gets used in each area. Not every area is treated at the same depth.
  3. Distribute shots by surface area. Jawline, cheeks, and under-eye areas each receive shots split across depths according to their size and degree of laxity.
  4. Calculate cost from the distribution table. Total shot count and the final price are the sum of this table, not a number chosen in advance.

Comparing Quotes Against the Posted Price

Ulthera is a non-reimbursed procedure in Korea, so there is no single national fee schedule, and the amount can differ between clinics even at the same shot count. Under Article 45 of Korea's Medical Service Act, as published by the National Law Information Center, medical institutions must post their non-reimbursed treatment fees so patients can check them easily, and they may not charge beyond the posted amount. When a quote comes in, I would check whether that posted figure includes anesthesia and VAT before comparing it to another clinic's number.

Our Gangnam branch is located inside UH FLAT SIGNATURE Gangnam. Guests staying at UHC group hotels can choose one complimentary recovery option after treatment: a 30-minute oxygen chamber session or a vitamin IV drip. Using both is available, with the vitamin IV drip priced at 55,000 won in that case. I've also written about what else to check in pre-consultation materials in What to Check Before Signing a Skin Procedure Consent Form.

FAQ

Can treatment use only the 1.5mm depth?

1.5mm is one of the cleared depths. The MFU-V study registered on ClinicalTrials.gov under NCT07224308 compares treating the full face and neck at a single 1.5mm depth against treating across multiple depths. Which approach fits a given patient depends on tissue thickness, which is the first thing I check.

What changed with Ulthera Prime?

Per the same study record, Ulthera Prime is designed to let the practitioner place energy while viewing tissue layers in real time through DeepSEE imaging. The record describes results appearing gradually as collagen remodels, rather than immediately after treatment.

Does a higher shot count mean a stronger result?

There is no evidence establishing that effect scales in proportion to shot count. Because the research itself designs depth and energy together rather than treating total count as the variable that matters, I determine how much is needed per area first and calculate the total afterward.
