Whether aftercare at a Korean dermatology clinic is included or billed separately does not have one answer. In-stay recovery care and post-return follow-up sit on different cost structures and different regulatory ground, and how long you need monitoring depends on the procedure itself. Does Recovery Finish Before You Fly, or After?

The American Society of Plastic Surgeons describes skin drying and peeling as typical around day five to day one week after laser resurfacing, and sun protection needs to continue every day even once the skin has healed. If your stay is two to seven days, a meaningful part of that window happens after you have already gone home.

Pigment treatment makes this gap wider than most other procedures. In a randomized controlled trial, researchers at Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, found that Asian patients who applied a broad-spectrum sunscreen with anti-inflammatory ingredients starting on day one after fractional CO2 laser treatment had lower rates of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation at the one-week mark than patients who started later. Dr. Adrienne Stewart, MD, has also written that the American Academy of Dermatology recommends daily use of a broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher, along with protective clothing and shade, during this recovery period. Put together, the home-care instructions you take with you are not a footnote to aftercare. For a short-stay patient, they are most of it.

Remote Follow-Up Is a Moving Target Right Now

Korea's Ministry of Health and Welfare announced in May 2026 that an amendment to the Medical Overseas Expansion Act has been promulgated, formally allowing non-face-to-face care for foreign patients. Under the amendment, a physician at a hospital designated to treat international patients will be able to use information and communication technology to handle pre- and post-treatment care, including ongoing observation, counseling, education, and even diagnosis and prescription, for patients including first-time visits. The Electronic Times reported that the amendment takes effect one year after promulgation.

Because the rule is not active yet, I tell patients in consultation exactly what kind of contact we can and cannot offer after they return home before that effective date arrives. That distinction matters more than any single fee.

When can I go back to a sauna or hot spring after treatment?

It depends on the procedure and how your skin responds. Heat and sweating can increase swelling and redness, so if a hot spring trip is already on your calendar, I usually recommend adjusting the treatment order or pushing that visit back. We give you a specific timeline for this once we have assessed your skin.

What symptoms after I return home should prompt a call to the clinic?

Redness, warmth, and pain occurring together, a firm lump that is not shrinking or is getting larger, or any visible discharge. Contact us first rather than applying pressure or heat on your own.

Can a doctor at home take over my follow-up care?

Having a record of the procedure name, the device used, the treatment area, and the dosage makes it easier for a local physician to assess your case. I recommend asking during your pre-departure consultation what form that record can take before you leave.
