Choosing a Gangnam Skin Clinic: Beyond Credentials and Gear

Consultation length and recovery planning reveal more about a Gangnam skin clinic than credentials or equipment lists. Our Gangnam director explains why.

A director's résumé, a list of devices, and a price sheet are the three things most people compare before booking a skin clinic in Gangnam, and none of the three tell you what actually happens in the room. I am Dr. Kim Yeonjin, Gangnam director at UH CELL. In my own consultations, the two things that predict whether a patient gets the right treatment are how much of the appointment is spent on diagnosis before a procedure is named, and whether recovery is planned as part of the visit rather than left for the patient to figure out afterward.

Choosing a Gangnam Skin Clinic: Beyond Credentials and Gear

What a Short Consultation Actually Costs You

Consultation length is not a Korea-specific complaint about dermatology; it is a documented pattern across primary care. Yeo Na-geum, an associate research fellow at the Korea Institute for Health and Social Affairs, presented findings in 2023 showing that Korea's average primary-care consultation runs about 4.3 minutes, compared with an OECD average of 16.4 minutes, a gap of roughly four times.

That figure is not drawn from dermatology clinics specifically, and I want to be careful not to overstate what it proves. But it points at something worth checking for yourself: pigmentation, redness, and enlarged pores can look similar on the surface while sitting at different depths of the skin and coming from different causes. When a consultation moves from greeting to booking in a few minutes, there usually was not time to ask about skin thickness, prior treatment history, or what specifically triggered the concern. A short consultation is not automatically a bad one, but if the treatment name comes before any of those questions, the plan was probably built for a category of skin, not for yours. I treat the presence of those specific questions, not the length of the appointment on the clock, as the first thing worth checking.

Why the Contract Matters More Than the Price Tag

The second blind spot is the contract, not the price. In July 2026, Korea's Fair Trade Commission reviewed prepaid-treatment terms at a group of dermatology and plastic surgery clinics after a sharp rise in related consumer complaints. According to the Fair Trade Commission's review, complaints filed with the Korea Consumer Agency over prepaid treatment packages rose from 88 cases in 2021 to 449 cases in 2024, more than a fivefold increase, and 83.1 percent of the disputes centered on contract termination and penalty fees rather than the treatment itself.

An event price or a bundled package can look like the better deal on the day you sign, but the number on the page does not tell you what happens if your plans change or the treatment does not proceed as expected. What does tell you is whether the refund terms for early termination are written down and explained before payment, not just referenced. I ask patients to get the total cost and the cancellation and refund terms in writing before a prepaid package is signed, not after.

Two Things Worth Checking Outside the Treatment Room

Beyond consultation time and contract terms, I tell patients to check two more things before they decide where to go.

The first is whether a director's treatment history can be verified somewhere other than the clinic's own marketing page. My training included graduate study at Seoul National University and residency at Seoul National University Hospital, and I currently serve as Allergan faculty for Juvederm and Botox and as a Potenza and Ultherapy Z Key Doctor. I also run a YouTube channel with about 100,000 subscribers where I discuss skin treatments and share case discussions publicly, which means that history is something a prospective patient can look at before ever booking a consultation, not something they have to take on faith from a clinic homepage.

The second is what recovery looks like once the treatment itself is finished. Our Gangnam location is inside the UH FLAT SIGNATURE Gangnam hotel building, and hotel guests staying there have access to a complimentary oxygen chamber and vitamin IV drip. For a patient with only a few days in Seoul, whether treatment and recovery can happen within the same building, rather than requiring a separate trip across the city to a hotel afterward, is a practical detail worth asking about before you book, not something to discover on arrival.

FAQ

Does a short consultation always mean something was missed?

Not necessarily. A short consultation is only a concern when a treatment gets named before questions about skin thickness, prior treatments, or the specific cause of a concern are asked. If those questions came first, length alone is not the problem.

Should I avoid discounted or event-priced packages?

Not automatically. The price itself matters less than whether the clinic puts the cancellation and refund terms in writing before you pay, since that is what determines what happens if your plans or the treatment outcome change.

Where can I check a director's actual treatment history?

Start with the clinic's own medical team page, but also look for a public channel the director runs directly, such as a YouTube channel or published case discussions, where treatment history and credentials can be reviewed independently before a consultation.
