After Treatment, Plan Follow-Ups by Purpose, Not Date

A follow-up visit after a procedure is not one fixed date. Dr. Kim Yeonjin of UH CELL Clinic Gangnam explains the three different reasons to come back and when each applies.

A follow-up visit after a procedure is not a single date set in advance. It splits into three visits with three different purposes. If something feels wrong, you contact us right away rather than waiting for a scheduled date. If the procedure is one where the effect takes time to settle in, such as Botox, the follow-up is for checking the result. And if the procedure is one that needs repeating, the follow-up is simply the timing of the next session. Once you know which kind of visit you are asking about, the question "when is it usually?" has a real answer.

After Treatment, Plan Follow-Ups by Purpose, Not Date

Hello, I'm Dr. Kim Yeonjin, director of UH CELL Clinic Gangnam.

When you should contact us right away, not wait for a date

Allergan, the manufacturer of BOTOX Cosmetic, advises patients to seek medical help immediately if trouble swallowing, speaking, or breathing develops anywhere from a few hours to a few weeks after an injection. The same guidance also lists general muscle weakness, double or blurred vision, and drooping eyelids as symptoms to watch for. These are not something to hold until a scheduled recheck — they call for contacting us right away. The same applies beyond Botox: with a filler, a laser, or any other procedure, if something feels different or more painful than expected, please reach out before your next appointment date rather than waiting.

A result-check visit comes after the effect has had time to settle

Allergan's guidance on BOTOX Cosmetic notes that results in the forehead, between the brows, and around the eyes can begin to appear from day one or two, with the full result visible by around day thirty. Judging the result — or any left-right difference — just a few days after treatment is too early, so a result-check visit makes more sense once the effect has had time to settle. Fillers behave differently depending on the area and product used, so we set the right check-in timing together with you on the day of treatment.

The next session depends on how long the effect lasts and the minimum interval

Allergan explains that the effect of BOTOX Cosmetic can last up to four months, and advises leaving a minimum of ninety days between sessions. Rather than adding another session while the previous one is still working, it makes more sense to discuss timing around this interval. For laser treatments or energy-based lifting procedures that are typically done in a series or on a recurring basis, we also confirm the interval to the next session on the day of your first visit.

If you're staying only a short time, keep a record before you go

For patients visiting from abroad for just a few days, a procedure like Botox — where the effect takes time to settle — may mean the result-check visit happens only after you've already returned home. Before you leave, ask for a written record of the treated area and the product name used. Wherever your next treatment takes place, that record helps the treating clinician understand what was done before. Our Gangnam location sits on the second and third floors of the UH FLAT SIGNATURE Gangnam hotel building, so for patients staying at that hotel, the distance between your room and a return visit during your stay is short.

Skin response and recovery can vary from person to person. Please speak with our medical staff for an accurate diagnosis and treatment plan suited to you.

FAQ

Is a follow-up visit always scheduled for the same day after every procedure? No. The right timing depends on the purpose of the visit — urgent contact for unusual symptoms, a result-check once the effect has settled, or a next-session visit based on the treatment's typical duration and minimum interval.

What symptoms mean I should contact the clinic immediately rather than wait? Difficulty swallowing, speaking, or breathing, general muscle weakness, double or blurred vision, or drooping eyelids after an injection are reasons to contact us right away, according to Allergan's guidance on BOTOX Cosmetic. Unusual pain or change after any procedure is also worth reaching out about sooner rather than later.
