Comparing HIFU lifting prices between Korea and home isn't one simple percentage. Match device, area, shot count and tax terms before you compare, and factor in the VAT refund change that took effect at the end of 2025.
How much cheaper is ultrasound lifting (HIFU) in Korea than at home? There isn't one honest percentage. The real difference only shows up when you compare quotes that match on device, tip, treatment area, shot count and whether tax is included. And since Korea's VAT refund for foreign visitors' cosmetic procedures ended on December 31, 2025, the amount you pay at checkout in Korea is now the final cost — there is no refund to subtract afterward.
Hello, I'm Dr. Kim Yeonjin, director at UH CELL Clinic's Gangnam location. If you're planning a trip to Korea around a lifting procedure, I'd encourage you to line up your comparison conditions before you look at any discount percentage.
Confirm it's the same procedure before you compare price
Ultrasound lifting is marketed under many names, but quotes for what sounds like the same treatment can cover very different scopes of work. Before you place a quote from home next to a quote from Korea, write down the following for both, using identical terms:
The device name and the tip used
The treated area (full face, jawline, under-eye, and so on)
The total number of shots
What's included — numbing, sedation management, follow-up care
A lower total price on a quote with fewer shots or a smaller treated area isn't a better deal on the same procedure — it's a smaller procedure. At our clinic, we don't sell fixed packages. We assess each patient's skin first and design the treatment area and shot count around that assessment, so your own numbers may differ from a quote built for someone else.
What changed with Korea's tax rules in 2026
Korea's Ministry of Economy and Finance set out in its 2025 tax law amendment to end the VAT refund available to foreign tourists for cosmetic medical procedures, effective December 31, 2025. According to Health Kyunghyang's 2026 reporting, that refund no longer applies. A bill to reinstate it has been proposed, but it has not been passed into law. The same report, citing data that Rep. Lee Dal-hee's office obtained from the Ministry of Health and Welfare, noted that the average refund per claim in 2025 was KRW 110,000.
If you compared prices before this change and subtracted an expected refund to make Korea look cheaper, you'll need to add that amount back in now. It's also worth double-checking whether the Korean quote you're holding already includes VAT, since that changes what you're actually comparing.
Total cost includes where you stay and how you recover
Comparing procedure fees alone leaves out your stay. Our Gangnam location operates as part of UH FLAT SIGNATURE Gangnam, inside the hotel itself rather than in a separate building with a referral arrangement. Guests staying at UHC hotels can choose one complimentary recovery option — either a 30-minute oxygen chamber session or a vitamin IV drip. Using both in the same stay is available, with the vitamin IV priced at KRW 55,000 when added to the free oxygen chamber session. Our Gangnam location also has Japanese, Chinese and English-speaking interpreting staff on site.
We've written in more detail about how the path from your hotel room to the treatment room and back to recovery works in Gangnam lifting and anti-aging: the path from your room to recovery. If you bring a quote from your home clinic, we're glad to go through it with you line by line so the comparison is actually apples to apples.
