Gangnam vs. Apgujeong: Follow the Route, Not the District

Choosing between Gangnam and Apgujeong for treatment in Seoul should be planned around your route and schedule, not the district name. Apgujeong-dong sits inside Gangnam-gu, so the real comparison points are the distance between your hotel and the clinic, the consultation language available, and whether recovery time fits inside your trip. Checking those three points narrows the decision faster than comparing neighborhood reputations.

Many visiting patients ask me whether Gangnam or Apgujeong is the better area for dermatology treatment in Seoul. According to 2024 foreign patient statistics released by Korea's Ministry of Health and Welfare in April 2025, 1.17 million foreign patients came to Korea for treatment that year, and dermatology accounted for 56.6 percent of cases, the largest share of any specialty. Seoul accounted for 85.4 percent of those patients by region. With that many visitors concentrated in one city, it makes sense that people try to narrow the choice down further by district.

District names don't settle the comparison

Apgujeong-dong is administratively part of Gangnam-gu. Treating "Gangnam" and "Apgujeong" as two separate zones to compare is a common misunderstanding, not a real distinction. The question that actually matters for a short visit is how your hotel, your clinic, and your travel dates line up, not which neighborhood label a clinic uses in its address.

The route between your hotel and the clinic sets your schedule

The shorter your stay, the more a single day of travel on treatment day or the day after can affect your plan. Our Gangnam branch is located inside UH FLAT SIGNATURE Gangnam, and our Seocho branch is inside UH FLAT The Seocho. Both operate as on-site facilities of UHC group hotels, so if you stay at either hotel, your room and the clinic are in the same building. Treatment itself takes place in a private room. If you are booking a hotel separately from your treatment, it is worth checking that distance before you commit to either location.

Confirm the consultation language before you book

Our Gangnam branch has interpreting staff on site for Japanese, Chinese, and English. Getting your skin condition, treatment history, and current medications across accurately is what allows us to set the right diagnosis and treatment plan. I recommend confirming at the booking stage whether consultation is available in your preferred language, rather than assuming it afterward.

Check whether recovery fits before you fly home

Downtime varies by treatment type and by skin condition, so I ask patients for their return date during consultation so we can discuss a treatment scope that fits the remaining time. For guests staying at a UHC group hotel, one additional option is available during that recovery window: a choice between a 30-minute oxygen chamber session or a vitamin IV drip, selected once at no charge. Choosing both brings the vitamin IV to 55,000 KRW. For a patient managing a tight schedule, having that recovery support inside the same hotel can simplify the days right after treatment.
