Rejuran (PN) and a standard hyaluronic acid skin booster solve different problems: HA hydrates, PN supports skin regeneration. Dr. Kim Yeonjin, Gangnam branch director at UH CELL Clinic, explains how each works, what the current evidence shows, and the three checks that decide which one actually fits your skin.
Whether Rejuran is worth choosing over a regular skin booster depends on what is actually causing your skin concern. If dryness is the main problem, a hyaluronic acid (HA) based booster can often be enough on its own, but when texture and elasticity have declined because skin regeneration has slowed, a polynucleotide (PN) treatment like Rejuran may be the better fit. Understanding how each ingredient works in the skin, then diagnosing which problem you actually have, should come before comparing price tags.
Hello, I'm Dr. Kim Yeonjin, director of UH CELL Clinic's Gangnam branch.
When patients ask me whether to choose Rejuran or a standard skin booster, I start by explaining what each ingredient does inside the skin rather than recommending one by name.
What Each Ingredient Does in the Skin
The regular skin booster most patients know, often called a "glow injection," is built mainly on hyaluronic acid. HA draws in water and holds onto it, which is why it works well for filling in dermal hydration when dryness is the core issue.
Rejuran's active ingredient is polynucleotide (PN), a purified DNA fragment typically sourced from salmon. According to DermatologyNews (2026), PN is injected into the dermis to stimulate fibroblast activity and support dermal remodeling, a different mechanism from simple hydration. The same report noted that PN's own water-binding effect can be milder than HA's.
How Much Evidence Actually Supports This
A systematic review published in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology, posted online in 2024, analyzed nine studies on PN injections covering 219 patients. Several of the included studies reported improvements in wrinkles, skin texture, and elasticity, and side effects were generally mild and temporary. The review's authors also noted that study quality ranged from low to moderate and that there is no consensus yet on optimal technique.
A separate systematic review of randomized controlled trials, indexed on PubMed in 2026, found even fewer qualifying studies: seven trials covering 183 participants. I read this evidence as confirming that PN has real potential, not as a guarantee that every patient will see the same result.
Three Things I Check Before Recommending Either
Before I suggest HA or PN, I walk through three questions with the patient.
What is actually causing the concern. Is the skin dry and dull, or has texture and elasticity dropped in a way that points to slower regeneration?
Recent treatment history. If a patient has had frequent laser sessions recently, I design the plan around recovery first rather than adding another active ingredient right away.
How much recovery time is available. Depending on the injection method, needle marks or small bumps can be visible for a period, so I plan this alongside a patient's return flight. I explained how injection depth affects pain and bruising in Rejuran Pain and Bruising: Safer Treatment Starts With Injection Depth.
An HA-based booster alone may be sufficient when dryness is the main driver. Rejuran becomes worth considering once slowed regeneration is the bigger factor, and when both are present, I usually design a staged plan rather than combining everything into one session. I go through how to identify what has actually slowed a patient's regeneration in Rejuran: Choose the Type After Understanding Why Skin Regeneration Has Slowed.
FAQ
Does Rejuran Add Volume Like a Filler?
DermatologyNews (2026) explained that HA fillers work by physically occupying space to add volume, while PN works biologically, stimulating skin regeneration over several weeks. The goal with Rejuran is a change in skin texture rather than facial contour.
How Many Sessions Will I Need?
The systematic reviews above show wide variation in injection technique, depth, treatment area, and interval between studies. Rather than fixing a session count in advance, I prefer to watch how a patient's skin responds after the first treatment and adjust the interval from there.
Can Recovery Care Fit Around a Hotel Stay?
Our Gangnam clinic is located inside the UH FLAT SIGNATURE GANGNAM building. Guests staying at UHC group hotels can choose one complimentary recovery option, either a 30-minute oxygen chamber session or a vitamin IV drip; using both adds a 55,000 KRW charge for the vitamin IV. Exact terms are listed on our official promotion page.
Individual skin response and recovery time vary. Please discuss your specific diagnosis and treatment plan with a clinician.
